Product Description

Sodium formate, contains two crystalline waters in its crystals, hence it is also known as sodium formate dihydrate, sodium formate dihydrate, or sodium citrate dihydrate. Sodium formate is the simplest organic carboxylate, which is a white crystal or powder with a slight formic acid odor. Slightly deliquescent and hygroscopic. Easy to dissolve in about 1.3 parts of water and glycerol, slightly soluble in ethanol and octanol, insoluble in ether. Its aqueous solution is alkaline. When heated, sodium formate decomposes into hydrogen gas and sodium oxalate, followed by the formation of sodium carbonate. Sodium formate is mainly used in the production of insurance powder, oxalic acid, and formic acid. Used as a camouflage acid in the chrome tanning process in the leather industry, as a catalyst and stabilizing synthetic agent, and as a reducing agent in the printing and dyeing industry.

Sodium formate is produced by reacting a solution of carbon monoxide and sodium hydroxide at 160-200 ºC and a pressure of 2MPa, followed by sulfuric acid hydrolysis and distillation to obtain the final formic acid.

Sodium formate is the by-products of neopentyl glycol, pentaerythritol, and trimethylolpropane with good quality.
